Code Orbit Hosts Summer Break Coding Workshop at Douglas County Library, Parker, Colorado, Empowering Students with Strong Programming Foundations

During the 4-week-long Code Orbit free coding program students participated in 60 minute interactive sessions designed to introduce them to programming fundamentals, computational thinking, and real-world problem-solving skills. The program focused on helping students understand how programmers think, approach challenges, and build solutions through code.
Students began with Python Foundations, learning essential concepts such as variables, data types, basic input/output, and operations. Through hands-on practice, students created small Python projects while building confidence with programming fundamentals.
The program also emphasized problem-solving with code, teaching students how to break down real world problems into clear, logical steps before implementation. Students practiced designing solutions and transforming ideas into working programs.
Students were introduced to terminal usage and developer workflows, learning how programmers navigate files, run programs, and manage projects using essential development tools.
The sessions also covered debugging techniques and Git basics, helping students understand how to identify and fix errors, improve code quality, and track changes in their projects.
Additionally, students explored the responsible use of AI in software development, learning how AI tools can support coding, explain concepts, and improve projects while maintaining independent understanding and ownership of their work.
Through a combination of mentorship, hands-on activities, and mini-projects in Python and Scratch, Code Orbit helped students develop a strong foundation in coding, strengthen problem-solving skills, and gain confidence in exploring technology.
